As always we are the pursuit of success for our clients. I want to share this conversation I had with my colleague Marci Rosenblum regarding the use and abuse of Social Media Platforms for branding and selling services on the web.

Janette: Is Social Media really dead? How come it’s so hard to get results.

Marci: Social Media is not good enough on it’s own. That’s why I always recommend a good website with sound SEO.

By Dr. Arthur P. Ciaramicoli, Ed. D, Ph.D

If you are in the unfortunate position of being managed by a micro-manager you are likely dealing with a very insecure person plagued by perfectionism and narcissism. By Kristin Tomlinson and Bob Speyer

There are a growing number of social media networks that can help market your business. It’s a good idea to market as many of these sites as possible, but you need to make sure to do it in a productive way that will benefit your business. Here are a few great ways to narrow down your social media choices and segment your online marketplace.

Shoot For Your Target

Traditional media like television and newspapers are created and marketed to attract their target audience. MTV attracts young adults, while the New York Times is aimed at business professionals. By Kristin Tomlinson and Bob SpeyerAn Evangelist is one of your most productive marketing tools when it comes to selling your product, getting referral business and gaining new customers. The most effective way to gain brand recognition is to have satisfied customers do all the legwork for you. The best part is that this “word of mouth advertising” technique is absolutely FREE. Whether your company sells products or services, think of your website as a virtual storefront, meaning that people from all over can travel to your “store” through the web. Maintain your site just like you would a store. To generate sales and return customers, you cannot let your “store” to do the work for you. Just because you have a site that’s up and running, doesn’t mean you can sit back and relax.

An online business needs to open up shop everyday. This includes looking for new methods to reach the people that want what you are selling. For online business marketing, this is where social networking can help. The social web will help you reach people who have an interest in the fields surrounding your products and services. For example if you are selling vitamins, you can join networks of people interested in health, nutrition, fitness, wellness, alternative medicine, holistic diets or any other related group. You can then collect data on potential customers so that you can plan your next marketing campaign or send email blasts and newsletters.

With the popularity of the iPhone, iPad and Droid, more and more Internet surfers are using their mobile phones when they are away from a computer. Owners of these cell phones can search for News, Locations, YouTube videos and check in with social sharing sites. They can also view personal docs and check email. Mobile phones are now the future for online marketing, providing businesses with a new source for marketing their websites, blogs, products and services.

Today is a different world of interconnectivity. Social sharing sites such as Foursquare, Gowalla, Yelp and Groupon offer the mobile consumers instant specials, coupons and great geo-local deals. Just by checking into Foursquare at your specific location — Starbucks, the Mall, a restaurant — they will let you know of a special offer in your vicinity. It may be enticing enough to redirect you to that destination and change your buying habits.
