Is it really possible that a simple “click” on a keyboard can single handedly stimulate the economy? Based on the sales, revenue and traffic generated on Cyber Monday 2010, it looks as though this may be the case. Instead of running towards store windows, people ran towards their computer screens in record numbers yesterday, spending an estimated $194.98 per person and drawing an astonishing grand total of 45 billion dollars at the end of the day. According to Coremetrics, a division of IBM, online sales yesterday were up 19.4 percent, compared to Cyber Monday 2009. Coremetrics also reported that total sales on Cyber Monday were 31.1 percent higher than Black Friday’s online sales.

‘Tis the Season for Savings
What makes Cyber Monday so appealing? The savings, of course. Many stores from Target to Kohl’s were not only offering online coupons, but online promotions that took off hundreds of dollars on merchandise. The first thing to sell out was televisions, many of them flying off the shelves at a record rate, selling for a price nearly half of what their worth. Here are some of the hottest ticket items from yesterday that sold-out in mere minutes:

The Holidays are a time where people come from near and far to reconnect, rejuvenate, reflect and rejoice. Thanksgiving is a great way to get back in sync with someone you’ve lost touch with or possibly repair old ties that have previously been severed. It’s a holiday that brings good times, delicious food and expanding waistlines!

Online reputation management should be a part of your Social Media Marketing Plan. It’s essential!!!
I was talking to a friend that has a very high profile job with a very visible fashion brand. Her company hosted a business event last week and invited all the media to participate. Some industry attendees were dissatisfied with the event and in no less than 24 hours it was splashed all over the Internet.

So much for all the expense, the planning and the hopes of positive feedback and let’s not even get into the damage caused to sales right before THANKSGIVING! BLACK FRIDAY! CYBER MONDAY! Oh noooooooo.

This blog was derived from our groups on Linkedin that were asked the following question “Does Begging for “Likes” and “Recommends” Work for Social Media Marketing?”
By Kristin Tomlinson, Web Success Team
Do you think begging for “likes” and “recommends” works for Social Media Marketing or is it counterproductive? When it come to marketing a business, everyone wants to draw as many supporters as possible, but there’s a thin line between begging for support and actually earning it.

Begging for “likes” from Facebook followers and asking fellow colleagues to “recommend” you on Linkedin will make your business seem desperate and tacky. If you’ve created a great brand that’s reliable, ethical and “likeable”, fans will flock by the hundreds and the “likes” and “recommends” will come naturally.

What does being “latino” mean?
I was reading an article in Clickz the other day titled the “Paradox of being Latino” by Gustavo Razzetti, in which he addresses the subject of being “tagged” a Latino.

I was born in Britain and raised in Venezuela. Since moving to the United States of America and becoming a citizen in 1987, I have always felt that I never really was part of the “American” culture because of these “tags.” Now, as an online marketer I fully understand and appreciate the value of having to “generalize” a group of individuals to better market your products.

Winston Churchill so famously stated, “Never in the field of human conflict has so much been owed by so many to so few.”
This morning, I woke up, shook the groggy out of my system, then blinked my eyes wide open. As I lay in bed for a few seconds, that quote was on my mind. I began to mentally make a list. And started to thank our Veterans for everything good in my life. My pillow, my favorite box of K cereal, the sun, my family’s health, my friends’ love… this list could go on for days. But most importantly, I thanked them for my freedom. This tiny ritual has since become a tradition year after year, when I first understood the true meaning of the “ultimate sacrifice.” Men and women sacrifice their lives daily so that we can enjoy the simple pleasures in life. I don’t know most of them, but I love them and I am grateful. I believe it’s the least I can do by starting off every Veterans Day with a burst of appreciation.

Every week I talk to business people about social media, from entrepreneurs and start ups to corporate types in medium to large businesses. Most either have a limited social media presence or are timid about its use for their business purposes — yet they are intrigued about all the buzz. Their questions and concerns are legitimate, so I decided to write this article to address their most common concerns.

Races were won and lost on election day, but arguably the biggest winner was Social Media. It once again proved to be an invaluable medium to inform and influence voters.

Social Media’s Big Four
Twitter, Facebook, Google and Foursquare enlisted election widgets and services on their pages to engage voter participation and inform them about the candidate’s positions. Continue reading “Social Media Wins Big on Election Day” »

“It’s just Advertising!” It’s the only phrase that comes to mind when my clients ask me “How does Social Media work?” More and more I am finding that we are doing the same job we did years ago when we worked in traditional advertising.
Historically, for the last century advertising has sought to build corporate reputations through branding and image recognition without directly appealing for sales. Return on investment was subservient to building your brand. Social Media acts quite similar in that the medium is the message. If clients are looking solely at ROI, then social media is not the first place to look. If harnessed, it can be the right place to deliver your message and help gain exposure.
