One of the most interesting trends to watch for in 2012 is social media going visual. What does that mean, you ask? It means that social media platforms such as Instagram, Pinterest and Tumblr are taking the center stage by appealing to the visual aspect of marketing and branding as opposed to just the content side. While content focused sharing platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, or LinkedIn are very effective for online marketing, the visual appeal that these sites embody is assisting companies in expanding their influence and attracting other niche groups as well.

Nothing is more appreciated and respected in business than a referral. It shows confidence in your brand, hands on experience and the ability to connect with people. It is the bi-product of a successful business–customer relationship. The lines have become blurred from traditional SEO to what I call SEO on “steroids”. The fuel that drives the traditional SEO engine is still relevant, from keyword-rich website content, code to content ratio and optimization, to being Google compliant. However, today search engines are paying increasing attention to an online social activity. Job searches are now mostly done online and rarely do people apply in person anymore. Major job search websites such as monster.com or careerbuilder.com have less impact as social media has transitioned into becoming the front runner for online recruiting. Recruiters are now heavily relying on social media platforms such as LinkedIn and Facebook to locate qualified candidates based on their skills and connections. Since about half of the US population is active in social media, it makes sense that they would be used not only for personal uses, but also for professional ones as well.

A call-to-action is a common online marketing tactic used by marketing experts to urge people to engage with a product or service. Social media marketing advertisements that don’t display a call-to-action are often considered incomplete and ineffective because you aren’t asking customers to connect with you. While this passive approach has been effective in the past, what is even more effective is something called a “call-to-reaction.” It allows you to engage your audience on a deeper level, and gives them an incentive to connect with you immediately.

Personal branding has become an important aspect to building your business online. Social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn offer ways for people to connect based on their interests and stay updated on the latest news and trends. By Robert Fleming – eMarketing Association
Ok kids, let’s face it, there is the dark side to social marketing, using groups, pages etc. In our social playground there are quite a few bullies out there, that would (if left unchecked or unchallenged) unravel all our network building efforts.
