How Food and Social Media Engage Your Senses

By Janette Speyer and Alison Brown, Web Success Team

Who doesn’t love food? Everyone has his or her weakness, whether it’s sweet or savory, we all have that one food that we crave. Some researchers think that cravings in adulthood are based on early childhood experiences, and that even the healthiest, fittest people have something that makes their mouth water. Not only does food spark a sense of nostalgia, but it can also bring about a sense of community. No matter what your cultural background, people can always find common ground when it comes to food.

If you’ve been reading the news lately, you’ve probably already heard that Facebook has announced that it’s going public and has filed an initial public offering (IPO) for $5 billion. For those of us not familiar with the financial sector, that means that Facebook is will be seeking to get $5 billion from investors. While it’s not surprising that Facebook made this move, what will be interesting is how this will impact the company as a whole, as well as the rest of the social media and online marketing world.

Editor’s note: This article was published in 2009 on a trip to South East Asia, were we traveled and ran the Web Success Team while on the go. This is still relevant information. Wi-Fi and Internet cafes are everywhere and with the advent of tablets and smartphones we are able to go anywhere without interruption. Our Web Success team staff writer is presently in Australia and contributing from there.

Traveling and running a business sounds like an oxymoron. Well, it can be done. Thanks to Apple, Twitter, Facebook, Skype and Wi-Fi. Today with all the virtual offices around you never know if you are talking to someone in the UK, America or in India.

2012 has just launched and it’s time to exercise our digital marketing muscles for our clients. In order to achieve the best possible results for them we have found that organizing and coordinating their previous online marketing efforts is the first order of business. Sometimes, it is more than just a Spring cleaning, rather more on the order of a redirect or facelift.

5 Holiday Marketing Tips & Fun Christmas Facts

By Janette Speyer and Alison Brown, Web Success Team

Christmas is known as the time of giving, and it’s the time of year when we get together with our families. The history of Christmas is quite complex, as its roots go back thousands of years. The celebration of Christmas primarily signifies the birth of Jesus and is celebrated annually by billions of people around the world. Modern day Christmas is celebrated by putting up a tree with lights and ornaments, playing Christmas music, eating a special meal, and exchanging gifts with friends and loved ones. Because Christmas has become more focused on gift giving over the years, it’s become a key sales period for many retailers and businesses.

When I open my Facebook profile, the right hand side always has ads that are related to my “Likes”. For example, if I “Like” vitamin B12, ads for vitamins and supplements appear. Along with these ads I also get shown my friends choices and “Likes”. This type of marketing is known as Behavioral Targeting and has already started to sweep the nation.

The Internet is about to change. Are you ready for the switch? ICANN, the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers, has been working on a domain overhaul that will allow you to have a Top-Level Domain (gTLD) that uses a .yourbrand extension instead of .com, .net or .org. This change has the potential to open the door for endless online branding possibilities. For Coca Cola, they can purchase the extension .coke and then create a number of different URL’s that help build their brand.

On January 12, 2012, the world’s largest branding revolution will begin, as ICANN will start accepting gTLD applications. Prices for owning the rights to various domain’s is very pricey and opens the door to a number of bidding wars for companies fighting for rights over general domain names.
